- The ouster of Senator Leila de Lima as chair of the Senate committee on justice has become a controversial issue
- Senator Leila de Lima accuses President Rodrigo Duterte of masterminding her ouster as chair
- On the other hand, Duterte denied the accusation and said that the Senate is beyond her authority
Tough President Rodrigo Duterte denies the allegations of Senator Leila de Lima that he was the one who orchestrated the Senator’s controversial ouster from her position as chair of the Senate committee on justice.
Duterte said that the Senate is not his territory and he has nothing to do with the ouster of De Lima as chair of the said Senate committee.
“I do not intervene or dwell into matters not within, not part of my territory,” said Duterte in an ambush interview.
Senator Leila De Lima has been a constant critic of the Duterte administration and the tension between the two government officials became worse as De Lima started a Senate inquiry on the extrajudicial killings.
However, due to her ‘biased’ allegations on President Rodrigo Duterte’s all-out war against the illegal drug trade in the country, the chairmanship of the Committee on Justice was declared vacant this afternoon, which ousters De Lima from her previous position.
After the controversial ouster, the fearless Senator immediately accused the president of masterminding her ouster as chair of the Senate committee on justice.
“Majority po and nag-oust sa akin bilang chair ng committee on justice. Wala po akong duda na mayroong kinalaman dyan ang ating Pangulo,” said De Lima who was extremely disappointed, yet sort of expecting, at the turn of events.
(Majority ousted me as chair of the committee on justice. I have no doubt that the President is involved in it.)
De Lima said that her controversial ouster was the “finishing touches” of the President.
The Senator further said that Duterte got even angrier at her after Edgar Matobato, who claimed to be a further member of the Davao Death Squad, accused the President of orchestrating the killing of his enemies and criminals in Davao City.
“Syempre tumindi lalo ang galit nya (Duterte). Talaga namang galit sa akin di ba? I mean, he was not concealing yung galit nya sa akin when I started nga this inquiry na binastos talaga ako ng husto, may mga (binato) sa akin na below the belt, may mga statement like you’re finished,” explained De Lima.
(Of course his anger got worse. He is really mad, right? I mean, he was not concealing his anger at me when I started this inquiry where he really disrespected me, he said accusations that were below the belt, statements such as you’re finished.)
Now we heard both sides, who is really telling the truth?
