- President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody drug war has earned the criticisms of the international community
- This American decides to speak out against the haters, saying that foreigners do not understand Filipino culture
- He says that Duterte is a real president that we should all be proud of
Due to the bloody war on drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte, foreign media has often heavily criticized the President. They condemn him as a person who violates human rights and demonize his methods.
Yet thousands of Filipinos still rally around their president and are proud of him regardless of what the foreign media say about him.
An American netizen named John Parsons, who has lived in the Philippines for more than 30 years, decided to speak up against all the Duterte haters.
In his facebook post, Parsons said “Fiipinos have a President, a real President, one that they are proud of. And rightly so.”
He explains that Duterte is engaging China, fighting drugs and corruption head on, and standing eye-to-eye with other sovereign nations as peers.
Parsons adds that Duterte is honest, brave, and a simple man who wants what is best for the Philippines.
He tells Americans that they are simply misunderstanding Duterte and the Filipino culture. According to the foreigner, Americans generally never “take culture and other cultures' viewpoints and values into consideration.”
Therefore, it is easy for them to misunderstand the context of what is happening in the Philippines.
He says that the Philippines is quite capable of standing on its own against bigger and stronger countries. He says that the foreign countries like the United States should stop looking down on the Filipinos and instead should treat the Philippines as an equal brother.
"We are a sovereign nation. We can and will clean up our problems. We will take our rightful place among the nations that we should have taken a long time ago. All we ask for is a little respect. treat us as brothers - equal brothers”
Parsons is proud it be living in the Philippines. In fact, he says that if Duterte finishes his term in 2022, maybe the Americans could borrow him to clean up America.
So far, Parson’s post has been shared more than thirty thousand times and netizens are praising his post.
