A Facebook post about a man allegedly pretending to be a Catholic priest in the province of Iloilo had gone viral, with many netizens able to recognize the suspect.
According to the viral social media post, the alleged fake priest introduced himself as Father Cabrera. The post also claimed that Fr. Cabrera arrived as a guest priest at the St. Gerome Parish in Dueñas, Iloilo.
He also alleged that Fr. Cabrera had already victimized a number of the faithful in Cotabato. In the viral Facebook post, Fr. Cabrera can be seen wearing his priestly garments in some photos while wearing a veil in other photos.
Many netizens who saw the viral post shared their experiences with the alleged fake priest, saying that he identified himself as a Catholic priest from the Benedictine order and that they really thought he was an authentic priest.
Another netizen narrated that Fr. Cabrera once claimed that he came from France but went home to the Philippines because his uncle was ill.
Several netizens from Dingle, Iloilo said that Fr. Cabrera also went to their town as a guest priest but the local parish priest said that he is not a real clergyman.
Many online users lamented that the alleged fake priest took donations from many Catholics and that he even conducted several masses, baptisms and blessing of cars for the faithful in Iloilo.
If Fr. Cabrera is proven to be a fake priest, his victims wished for him to be punished for his crime.
There have been a number of fake Catholic priests in the Philippines identified in recent years. Fake priests from Ozamiz, Pampanga, Laguna, Caloocan City and Quezon City have already been exposed in their respective dioceses.
