All mothers share this instinct to protect their babies. When it comes to animals, that instinct usually works only for the members of their own species. Not there is no rule without an exception.
A lioness found an injured fox, about to become lion's dinner. And instead of letting a lion take a bite of that little poor thing she does something shocking! The lioness ran to protect the fox from another lion.
She just couldn't let the baby fox to become someone's food, so she moved herself in-between the approaching lion and the poor fox.
The lion didn't like that and decided to go after fox protector's cubs, which led to an all out roar fight between the two ferocious creatures.
Finally, the lion gave up and walked away. The little fox was able to walk off on his own, all thanks to the protective motherly instincts of this loving lioness, the head lioness of the Sunday Pan Pride. She resides at the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana.
