- Senator Miriam Santiago announced in 2014 that she had lung cancer
- While she announced in 2015 that she overcame the disease, the Senator is continuing treatment in a private room at St. Lukes
- Miriam Santiago’s daughter Mechel Santiago reminded everyone that the Senator loves and thanks everyone for their support and prayers
According to the daughter of Miriam Santiago, the Senator is continuing her battle against cancer in a private room instead of an intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Taguig City.
In a Facebook post, Miriam Santiago’s daughter Mechel Santiago clarified that her mother is undergoing treatment in a private room of St. Lukes Global. She thanked all the Senator’s supporters for praying and being there for Miriam.
“Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is in a private room of St. Luke’s Global, not in the ICU. She is currently being treated for her cancer and the family is hoping that she will fully recover. Thank you for respecting our privacy in the meantime. Thank you for continuously praying for her,” Mechel Santiago posted on her Facebook page.
Miriam’s daughter also reminded everyone that her mother loves all her supporters and will bravely face the cancer treatment.
“She loves all of you. She is a fighter and will continuously fight this battle,” she added.
Last July 2014, the beloved Senator announced that she had lung cancer. However, after a year of treatment, Miriam announced that she conquered the disease after enduring a new anticancer drug in a clinical trial.
With new resolve, Miriam Santiago ran for President but lost to President Rodrigo Duterte in the May 9 elections.
However, even with her announcement that she beat cancer, Miriam Santiago was rushed to a Taguig hospital in May due to complications of cancer.
Reports later said that the Senator was discharged a week later.
