- President Duterte in a formal suit is something that you don’t see everyday
- On the second day of the ASEAN Summit, many were surprised to find Duterte wearing a suit
- Many called the event a rare instance
President Rodrigo Duterte is known for his signature outfit – the checkered polo, some pair of jeans, and a mix of tough language that makes him worthy of being in the headlines of international news outfits.
On the first day of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, Duterte wore the traditional Philippine barong with rolled up sleeves. The barong Tagalog may be traditionally acceptable in the country, but the rolled up sleeves are often regarded as very casual, not fitting for such a formal occasion.

Luckily, when the Laotian president was about to make a speech, Duterte rolled down the sleeves of his barong Tagalog.
On the second day of the Summit, President Duterte conformed to other ASEAN leaders and wore a formal suit. It was a black suit which made him blend along nicely with other ASEAN leaders during the photo op.
Since President Duterte in a suit is an uncommon sight, some netizens, both local and foreign alike, couldn’t help but tweet their reactions.
So that’s the 2 day of the ASEAN Summit.
