Davao City Mayor and aspiring president Rogrigo Duterte tops the latest ABS-CBN Pulse Asia survey on presidential candidates announced on Tuesday, April 19.
Mayor Duterte notched a rating of 32%, according to the commissioned nationwide survey conducted from April 5 to April 10 with 4,000 registered voters as respondents. The mayor’s rating is 2% higher compared to the last Pulse Asia survey conducted from March 29 to April 3.
Senator Grace Poe landed at second having an unchanged 25%.
At third are Vice President Jejomar Binay with 20% and Liberal Party and administration standard bearer Mar Roxas has 18%. Both are statistically tied.
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago maintained a 1% rating.
The respondents were tested: If the coming May 2016 elections were held today, whom would you vote for as President of the Philippines?
Pulse Asia said the survey had a ± 1.5% error margin at the 95% confidence level.
It added that subnational estimates for the geographic areas covered in the survey have following error margins at 95 percent confidence level:
± 4.6% for Metro Manila,
± 2.3% for the rest of Luzon,
± 3.4% for Visayas, and
± 3.3 for Mindanao
The results also indicated that 4% of voters are still undecided on who to vote as president with only just a month before the May 9 election.
According to Pulse Asia's Research Chief Ana Tabunda, a 15% margin in the survey means a sure win for that candidate.
“Siguro kung 15 points ahead na tapos dalawang araw na lang eleksyon na o isang linggo na lang, medyo mahirap na yun habulin,” Tabunda said.
She said Pulse Asia might conduct three (3) more surveys before the election. The last one (1) will be released one week before May 9.
Said survey period came before Mayor Duterte’s bad joke ignited arguments between his supporters and those who were terribly affected by his statement.
