An open letter by Senator Alan Cayetano addressed to the President of the United States has gone viral on Facebook.
The open letter was accompanied by a photo of both President Barack Obama and President Rodrigo Duterte and a note that says: “With A Prayer for a successful meeting between him and President Duterte.”
The lengthy open letter started with Cayetano referring to himself as a “citizen of the world” and a “believer in change”. Then it talked about the Filipino’s hope of a better future and aspiration for a secured nation.
The senator then talked about the recent attack in Davao City that killed 14 people and injured 68 others and how the people are still recovering from the traumatic act. He also mentioned how the law enforcers in the country are doing what they can every single day to “reclaim communities from narcotics and criminality” and how the President is “pursuing peace and fighting corruption.”
While all these are being worked hard for, the Senator said that there are “powerful forces are working against us (locally and internationally).”
The senator then stated his reason as to why he chose to write to the President of the United States. He enumerated the different times Obama was put on center stage for the many issues thrown against him.
“You know how it feels to have the weight of the world on your shoulders,” the senator wrote.
The open letter also garnered different reactions from the netizens with some expressing their admiration for the senator and with some sharing their own thoughts about the open letter.
