- The Philippines will host the Miss Universe 2017 Pageant
- President Rodrigo Duterte said that the homeless must not be hidden during the event
- He also told DSWD Secretary Taguiwalo not to let Steve Harvey host the said pageant
In preparing for the 2017 Miss Universe 2017 Pageant, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo not to hide the homeless of the country.
The 2017 event will be the third time that the Philippines will be hosting Miss Universe pageant. The most recent one was in 1994 when Sushmita Sen from India won the much-coveted crown.
“Ang instruction ni Presidente, huwag sila itago,” said Taguiwalo in a text message to reporters.
(The President’s instruction was not to hide them.)
The event will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Wanda Teo, Tourism Secretary said that 2017 is the best time that the Philippines will host the said event considering that both the President and Pia Wurtzback are from Mindanao.
In the said event, Maxine Medina will be representing the country. She said that she is confident that she can bring a back-to-back win for the country at the 65 Miss Universe pageant, which will be a two-week event.
Aside from preparations for the event, the President has also made another request to Teo concerning the host of the pageant.
President Rodrigo Duterte told Taguiwalo that the host must not be Steve Harvey, who made a huge blunder at the pageant when he announced the wrong winner.
Harvey erroneously announced Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia as the Miss Universe and worse was that he corrected the mistake after Gutierrez has already worn the crown. Pia Wurtzbach was very gracious when she was declared as the rightful winner of the Miss Universe crown.
President Duterte hasn’t yet changed his decision regarding Steve Harvey as of this writing.
