Sara Duterte revealed on her Instagram account on Monday that she was also a rape victim. In spite of this, she said, she took no offense to her father's joke.
Her admission came amidst the firestorm her father, presidential bet Rodrigo Duterte, created through his controversial joke about the gang rape of an Australian missionary in 1989.
Sara, also a former mayor of Davao City like her father, said in her post: "Not a joke. I am a rape victim. But I will still vote for President Rodrigo Duterte."
In an interview with GMA News the lady Duterte said her parents didn't know about it. She said it happened a very long time ago and that it was "immaterial" for her.
"Wala akong sinabihan kasi at the time hindi ko siya maintindihan pa. Nahiya akong magsabi," added Sara.
(I did not tell anybody at the time because I didn't understand it yet. I was embarrassed to say anything.)
Sara admitted that his father's controversial comment about the Australian missionary "was a really bad joke."
But she said it will not hinder her from voting for the Davao strongman. She said her father could still deliver as president.
"I take no offense sa joke niya kasi I still believe na he can perform," asserted Sara.
