- Comedian and last year's Miss Universe host Steve Harvey made headlines when he announced the wrong winner of the pageant, only to retract his statement to declare Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach as the victorious beauty queen
- President Rodrigo Duterte has asked Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo to replace Harvey as this year's host
- Since Harvey has a five-year contract with the Miss Universe organization, Teo has thought of adding a Filipina reporter to host alongside him
Since the Philippines is going to be the host country for Miss Universe next year, President Rodrigo Duterte has one request - he wants comedian and last year's host Steve Harvey to be replaced.
The tough-talking president, who once said that he will not spend money on the pageant, expressed his concern to Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo.
"When I told the President about that, negative agad ang sabi niya: 'Hindi pwede.' That was what he said. And he said: 'I’m going to talk to the Miss Universe na dapat hindi siya.' So, that’s my problem, " she said to the press on Thursday.
(When I told the President about that, he already said negative things: 'It cannot be.' That was what he said. And he said: 'I'm going to talk to the Miss Universe that he [Harvey] should not be the host.' So, that's my problem.)
Harvey committed one of the major blunders on television last year when erroneously announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Guiterrez as Miss Universe 2015, only to correct himself moments later - it was Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach who was the rightful winner.
However, Guiterrez had already walked the ramp and wore the crown before Harvey announced his mistake. He apologized thereafter.

It will be a challenge for Teo to fulfill the president's request since Harvey has a five-year contract with the Miss Universe organization.
To appease Duterte, the tourism secretary has planned to get a Filipina broadcaster who will join Harvey in hosting the event.
"Para medyo hindi talagang magiging—magagalit ang Presidente, siguro maglalagay ako ng a girl from the Philippines that will co-host... probably one from the media," she said.
(So that the president does not get angry, I think I will just put in a girl from the Philippines that will co-host...probably one from the media.)
The president did not state if he has a particular broadcaster he wants to see alongside Harvey.
The pageant will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2017, with Binibining Pilipinas Maxine Medina as the country's bet.
