- Netizens panicked after the BPI announced the need to update their account info so as not to lose access to ATMs
- Some netizens expressed their stress, some wrote about their confusion, others tried to help out, while several netizens who have accounts on non-BPI banks gloated
- Fortunately, the BPI clarified that not all of its clients need to update their account info
On August 26, news spread like wildfire that the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) had announced that their clients need to update their BPI account info before August 31 so as not to lose access to automated teller machines (ATMs) and the online and mobile bank services.
Those who would not be able to update their info will have to receive bank services from the counters of BPI branches.
Naturally, many Pinoy netizens panicked and freaked out over the sudden announcement.
Other netizens were also confused with the announcement since they have just updated their BPI accounts.
On the other hand, other Pinoy members of the online community decided to be helpful instead of whining about the sudden need for an update.
There were also several netizens who expressed their doubt on the validity of the BPI announcement. Many of them asked if it is really possible and feasible for the BPI to block services for all of their clients who fail to update their info within five days.

Several Pinoy online users also Tweeted how lucky they are not to be BPI clients.
After a few days of panic, the stress was decreased when the BPI moved the deadline to September 30. However, the panic was almost completely dissolved once the bank clarified that 95% of their clients do not need to update their info.
Only the clients who the BPI had communicated with separately are required to update their accounts.
Due to the fiasco, the BPI issued a public apology. Many netizens were willing to forgive the bank but with a condition.
