Fajardo shows that Beermen don't rely on Imports

June Mar Fajardo, in a match against the Alaska Aces, showed why he is two-time league MVP and arguably the best Filipino player in the league as he rallied the Beermen to victory in the absence of their star import AZ who is battling injury.

Fajardo, also known as 'the Kraken', played excellent basketball especially in the tight fourth quarter where he made 16 points, mostly from inside the paint, that eventually led the Beermen to a 106-103 win against the Alaska Aces.

The Beermen throughout the game were at a disadvantage as they were trailing the powerful offensive Aces led by their powerhouse import Buck Henton.

However, with Fajardo finishing the game with 37 points, the Beermen were able to bounce back and create an upset.

According to coach Austria, their win without AZ Reid is proof to the doubters that a team does not need to rely on an import but should rely on the team effort in order to win. He added by commending the former University of Cebu player for the incredibly impressive game.

With this performance, Fajardo has been named as the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for August 22-28. This is the first time that the 2 time reigning MVP has received such accolade beating the likes of Ginebra's Aguilar and Tenorio, GlobalPort's Romeo and Meralco's Cliff Hodge.
