WATCH: Queen Pia's endearing, emotional farewell speech

There's no question, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is a tough act to follow.

She's classy, yet down to earth. She's very posh, yet very relatable. She's candid and sassy and very intelligent.

She doesn't shy away from difficult topics -- politics, homosexuality, HIV awareness -- and yet, can also give relaxed honest-to-goodness interviews while making lumpia.

She's a beauty queen who will be most remembered for her never-say-die determination, her sharp wit and her articulate answers.

Last night, April 17, Pia turned over her coveted crown to her successor Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina at the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

As she "graduates" from Binibini last night, Pia delivered a very endearing, emotional farewell speech.

The first Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown in 42 years, Pia thanked God and all Filipinos for the support.

She especially thanked Bb Pilipinas charities head Stella Marquez-Araneta, her family and friends, her Aces and Queens mentors, and her fans, the Pianatics.

Pia, visibly emotional, told the thousands watching at the Araneta Coliseum and on their TV screens: "In the years that I have appeared on this very same stage, my biggest realization is that you should never give up on your dreams. We should never waver in our perseverance and never let obstacles hinder our progress."

It took Pia three tries at the Bb Pilipinas pageant before finally getting a crown.

With the humble grace of a queen, she offered words of wisdom for her successor.

"Just remember to give your best. Behind that beautiful gown, your knees may be trembling -- like me right now, I'm still not used to it. And being in front of millions of people is nerve-wracking, but you have to remember that you are proudly wearing that sash that says Philippines.

And believe me, in your moments of doubt, you just have to remember that you have the whole country cheering you on."

Pia ended her speech with a celebration of Filipina beauty and a salutation for all.

"Tonight is the beginning of the journey for a confidently beautiful Filipina. Mabuhay ang gandang Filipina. Mabuhay ang Filipina. Mabuhay tayong lahat!"
