All eyes are on Maria Mika Maxine Medina, who has really huge shoes -- or rather, really high stilettos -- to fill as she now wears the Miss Universe Philippines crown, previously owned by none other than Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
The pressure is high for Medina, as many Filipinos are praying for a back-to-back win at the most watched international pageant this year.
But who is our new queen?
The newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines is an interior designer from Quezon City.
If she looks a bit familiar, it's because she has also been appearing on many popular brand commercials on TV, billboards, and magazine spreads.
Medina is a professional model since 2008. She's a member of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines.
She is one of the ambassadors for Skinstation, a dermatology clinic, since 2013. She has appeared as model for big name brands, including: Celeteque, Gynepro, Gatorade, Globe, Smart, PH Care, San Mig Light, Nissin, Revlon, Tresemme, Nivea, Ayala Land Premier, Gold's Gym, and Singapore Tourism.
She had been a Bb Pilipinas candidate in 2013, but because she had an existing endorsement contract with a pageant sponsor, she was disqualified just days after the official announcement of candidates.
This is her first time to join the beauty pageant.
On her Instagram account, Medina assured Filipinos that a back-to-back win is what she will work for: "I will do my best to improve more and to be the pride of my country. Hopefully, a back-to-back win with the reigning Miss Universe @piawurtzbach with the help of the Lord."
The new queen will start her rigorous training for the international pageant as soon as her round of victory celebrations and media tour are done.
