- President Duterte, after making a series of pronouncements against the US and the UN, is now looking for a Philippine ambassador to the US
- The President wanted Delfin Lorenzana, current Secretary of Defense, to take the post, but he refused
- The search is still on for the next Philippine ambassador to the United States
Who would like to become the next ambassador of the Philippines to the United States? After a series of pronouncements made by President Duterte against the US and also the UN, no one has agreed to become the next Philippine ambassador to the US.
President Duterte held a press conference in Davao City, which started before midnight on Wednesday, where he informed the public that current Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana wouldn’t want to take the post of Philippine ambassador to the United States primarily due to his age.
From 2004 to 2015, Lorenzana was the Special Presidential Representative for Veterans Affairs at the Philippine Embassy. The President would have wanted him to be the country’s ambassador to the US, but the 67-year-old Lorenzana felt that he was already old for a foreign post.
Duterte mentioned that he made it known during a cabinet meeting that the country needs to have an ambassador to the US.
The President said that according to Lorenzana, if he would order the latter to take the post of Philippine ambassador to the US, he will accept. However, he is already old.
Based on Lorenzana’s statement, he still couldn’t become the Philippine ambassador due to his age.
The President’s plan was to get Lorenzana to be the country’s ambassador to the US. He would then vacate his current position as Defense Secretary, and when he does, he was eyeing Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro to become the country’s Defense Secretary.
Gibo has however, refused the post. The President himself reached out to Gibo, but the lawyer refused the offer. - SD, Kami Media
