MNL48 is a sister group of Japan’s popular AKB48, which has taken the Jpop scene by storm. AKB48 was conceptualized by producer Yasushi Akimoto who wanted to form a girl group that performs daily. Akimoto wants a group that fans can meet everyday and see their live performances. Like a true businessman, Akimoto has expanded the group’s concept in China and Indonesia, with upcoming groups announced for the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.

Netizens, on the other hand, is very welcoming with the concept. Some people said that it has been a dream come true.

Ah, my long awaited dream... It's really happening. I check this page everyday and start crying like a fool,” says one netizen.

However, there are still some people that are sceptical if Pinoys will be ready for idol culture like Korea, Japan, and China.

“I wonder if the Pinoys are really ready for the idol culture.”
