Design Week Philippines kicked off the creative festivities in the Walled City of Intramuros on Saturday, April 16. The event will last until April 24.
Presented by the Department of Trade and Industry, through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), Design Week Philippines caters to up and coming artists and entrepreneurs. The event aims to celebrate arts and design in our country.
Attendees of the arts and design spectacle can enjoy activities like calligraphy, spoken word poetry, typography, and graffiti art in various venues inside Intramuros.
Featured artists for the Design Week Philippines eight-day run include White Wall Poetry, Lakambini, Mellow Submarine, and Caffeine and Taurine for spoken word poetry. A weekend market by Viva Manila at Gen. Luna Street and on-the-spot sketching tours and workshops by Urban Sketchers at the Teatrillo and Casa Blanca will culminate on April 17.
From April 17-20, street and digital artists of Street Art by Gerilya will collaborate and transform the walls of General Luna into a massive gallery of social-realist art inspired by iconic prints and patterns of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Slab pottery, and rubber stamp design, floral sketching, and basic weaving will also highlight the week-long event.
