7 reasons why Filipinos Love the Rainy season

Unlike other countries where there’s winter, spring, summer, or fall, the Philippines only have dry and wet seasons. Half of the year, it’s very warm and sunny while the other half is rainy and wet.

There are a lot of things that we don’t like about the typhoon season such as floods, heavy traffic, disasters, and gloomy sky. While there are multiple cons, there are also a few reasons to enjoy and celebrate during ‘tag-ulan’ period.

1. Cuddle weather

Rainy weather means its cuddle weather! It’s the perfect time to cuddle with your loved one and for the single people out there, it’s still great time to snuggle with your pillow and catch more sleep.

2. Cold air

When it rains, the weather gets colder usually at night. It’s one of the things that Filipinos really look forward to. We may not have snow here, but at least we get some cold breeze at night. It’s also a great opportunity to save money by just opening the window a bit to let the cool air in.

3. Kape and hot choco all-day!

During the summertime, Filipinos crave for halo-halo, cold iced tea, and yummy frappes from their preferred cafes. However, during the rainy days, Filipinos crave for hot chocolate and their kapeng barako! It’s the only time where you won’t sweat profusely after sipping your favorite hot drink.

4. Champorado + tuyo

Filipinos don’t only crave for hot drinks during this season, but also hot dishes. Hot soups and porridges are the most consumed dishes during these seasons because they instantly warm us up. For some reason, Filipinos were able to come up with a one-of-a-kind combination of champorado (chocolate rice porridge) and tuyo (dried fish). The sweetness of the porridge and the saltiness of the fish are a match made in heaven.

5. Layered fashion!

With the cold weather and wet surroundings, it’s the most suitable time to bring out your jackets, boots, and raincoats! Some people even wear scarves, gloves, sweaters, and other layers of clothing. The rain brings out the ‘fashionista’ in other people.

6. Suspended classes

Hooray for kids! Depending on the signal level number, students’ classes are suspended. More time to bond with your family, catch on some sleep, and study/ play more.

7. Rain dance!

The best reason is the rain itself! Do you remember the time when you were a little kid when you played and danced in the rain with your closest buddies?
