Top-tier Dota 2 tournament comes to Manila;  cash prize at $250,000

The first ever premier eSports event in the country is about to kick-off in less than a week’s time. ESL One Manila is a top-tier Dota 2 tournament that features a whopping $250,000 prize pool. The top professional teams from all over the world will be duking it out at the Mall of Asia Arena from April 23-24.

Joining the contest will be former Shanghai Major Champions Team Secret, North American team on the rise Complexity Gaming, long-time Chinese giants EHOME. The lone Philippine team, Mineski, will be giving it their all against and hope to seize hometown advantage as they win their first big major LAN event.

The Filipino faithful will also be glad to know that TV5 will be broadcasting the finals of ESL One Manila live on primetime television.  Aksyon TV, on the other hand, will feature the whole nine yards featuring two day’s worth of matches. The announcement was made in a press-con last April 7 by former Gilas and Talk ‘N Text coach Chot Reyes.

The event is organized by ESL (Electronic Sports) a professional gaming company operating from Cologne, Germany. The group is known for organizing high-end tournaments around the world from Europe to North America. This will be the first ever event of such a caliber in the Philippines.

The Philippines continues to grow as a budding nation for eSports with the ESL One Manila just the first big tournament coming to the country this year. In June, comes a bigger event in the Valve sponsored, Manila Major, which features a stunning three million dollar prize pool. If you still don’t believe in eSports now is the time to start believing.
