This strong and sporty boy is forced to carry his own heart in his backpack. Learn why he does it.
Meet Andrew Jones. He is just 26. He loves bodybuilding and has attained some significant success in it. However, one day has broken down all his dreams and almost taken his life. He was on a run when he suddenly came out of breath and started coughing. Then he spitted out blood and suffocated. He was rushed to the hospital only to learn the young man had a heart failure.
His disease was hereditary and in no time this strong man lost all his power and had a hard time standing on his own. No heart was available for the transplantation, but without it, the lad would die soon. So, the doctors used an artificial heart, and the guy places it into his backpack when he heads to the gym.
Here is what he says about his condition:
“Living with this disease put me in a pattern with depression and physical pain. I had to stop working because I wouldn't be able to stand for more than 10 minutes. I dreaded going to the kitchen because that meant that I had to go up and down my stairs. I couldn't even get dressed without panting and gasping for air - my life was falling apart, and I just wanted relief.”
What his artificial heart is like? Well, he’s got two tubes connected to a machine. They also enter his body. He carries the device on his back. The machine pumps the compressed air to cause the blood pressure and pumps the blood through his vessels.
The man is thankful for the new chance to live and even to resume training as a bodybuilder. He now uses social media to raise awareness of the need to donate the organs of dead people to save someone’s life. He adds:
“I'm never afraid to go out in public or take off my shirt in front of other people. I do try to be considerate because it is different and some people may feel uncomfortable. But I have no problem explaining what my device is, how it works and why I need it.”
His story is remarkable, and it’s a mercy of God that the man lives a full life, has a job and keeps on working out!
