President Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced that he will revisit the pork barrel scam involving mastermind and businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles and representatives and senators.
The scam allegedly siphoned the Priority Development Assistant Fund (PDAF) to fake non-government organizations (NGOs).
Duterte he has some “revealing things” to say about the controversial pork barrel scam, the president said in a press conference at the presidential guesthouse at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Panacan.
“Let us revisit the Napoles case. I have some revealing things to tell you about it. You just wait. But I will…If that is the only thing that I’ll have to do until the end of my term, I will do it. For I shall have done a singular task of giving you the truth about your government,” he said.
He added that some politicians were acquitted or charged for their involvement in the pork barrel scam must pay to the Filipino people.
The Priority Development Assistance Fund scam, also called the PDAF scam or the pork barrel scam, first came to light in 2013 after whistleblower Benhur Luy was rescued by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation after he was detailed by Napoles at her unit at the Pacific Plaza Towers in Fort Bonifacio.
It is estimated that the Philippine government was defrauded of around 10 billion pesos in the course of the scam. Government officials reportedly diverted the funds to Napoles NGOs and into their own pockets.
The scam has provoked public outrage and people called for the abolition of pork barrel to lawmakers.
