Senator Leila de Lima denied on Saturday that she has a sex video with her former driver, adding that she was hurting from President Rodrigo Duterte’s personal attacks.

"Masakit ang mga tungkol sa personal na buhay, nirereview na naman yang alleged sex video na yan. Hindi iyan totoo. Matagal na nila iyang nire-raise,” the senator said.

President Rodrigo Duterte had accused the neophyte senator of committing adultery with her former driver and receiving money from drug lords detained at the New Bilibid Prison during her time as the secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

However, De Lima had denied the allegations about being involved in the illegal drug trade, saying that these attacks could possibly be a way to stop her from investigating the increase of summary killings since Duterte assumed office.

"Every time I am in the middle of something, nilalabas nila ang so-called alleged sex video na yan,” De Lima explained.

De Lima also pointed out that the alleged still from the sex video had already been examined by her staff.

“Nakita ng staff ko na may still photo, na ginawa kunyari video. In-examine nila ang photo, hindi ako iyon,” the senator added.

According to De Lima, she had heard reports that her former driver’s life might be in danger and that his family is hurting from the accusations. The senator also admitted to being “close” to her former driver but refused to further elaborate on their relationship.

"Napalapit siya sa akin. Paumanhin niyo po, hindi ko na po pwedeng...ayaw ko na pong mag-touch on that. Ayaw kong malihis sa mga personal na bagay,” De Lima stated. (We became close. Forgive me, but I do not want to touch on that. I do not want this to be about personal matters.)

A Senate hearing on Monday, August 22, is set regarding the spate of killings of suspected drug criminals nationwide. Philippine Nation Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa will once again answer questions from the senators, including De Lima. – Kami Media
