Despite suffering from a terrible stomach ache during a race, French athlete Yohann Diniz collapsed while competing in a 50km walk but still got back to his feet and managed to finish the race.
Known as the world record holder in the event, Diniz was already leading the race during the 45 minute when he began experiencing difficulties in walking because of the stomach problem.
French publication L'Équipe reported that French favorite Diniz had been suffering from a bad stomach problem for day but still chose to compete in the race.
The camera was able to capture Diniz’ struggle when a dark liquid started to trickle down the back of his legs after defecating during the race. After an hour of struggle, Diniz collapsed to the floor and lied motionless for a few seconds before getting back to his feet.
Showing what true sportsmanship is, Canada’s Evan Dunfee who was going in to the lead helped Diniz to stand up as they continued with the race.
Despite his efforts to finish the race with a stomach problem, Diniz finished and got eight place.
The Frenchman never made it to the podium of a world championship or Olympic Games in 20 kilometers. Diniz’ best performance was when we won a silver medal over 50 kilometers at the 2007 world championships.
During the Beijing 2008, Diniz also struggled pain in both his leg and his stomach which made him withdraw from the starting line.
Four years later after the faltering of his Olympic dream, Diniz was disqualified during a race in London for drinking outside the specified zone of the race.
The French athlete won the last three 50km walk race competitions at the European championships despite all the bad luck- or bad stomach problem rather- on the world scene. –Kami Media
