Intense rain in Saudi Arabia and Yemen, claim 42 lives

HIGHLIGHT: The intense rain in Saudi Arabia and Yemen have claimed 42 lives in one week.

Death toll in northern Yemen reached 24 and 18 in Saudi Arabia.

Landslides and flashfloods followed the heavy downpour which killed 14 people in the provinces of Amran and Hajjah, northwest of Yemen capital, Sanaa.

On the south of Hajjah in the province of Al-Mahwit, a dam broke out which caused inundation of farmland and collapse of bridges.

Even the arid lands of Riyadh were seized by rain and flood; schools and offices were closed.

Saudi Arabia’s Disaster and Crisis Management Center received 6,393 emergency calls from around the country from Thursday to Sunday last week due to heavy rainfall.

The civil defense of Saudi Arabia recorded deaths from Hail, Mecca, Medina, Al-Baha, Asir, Najran and Jazan.
