This poor mutt by the name of Petunia was a stray that roamed the streets of LA. She sometimes visited the park where people would feed her.
Hope for Paws, a recue organization, found out about Petunia and decided to help her. After a short search they found the dog on a parking lot. When she saw the rescuers she was scared of the them and ran away to hide underneath a truck.
The rescuers were required to crawl under the truck and drag Petunia out by her leg.
“Petunia wagged her tail nervously, but I knew we would be cool. At one moment this closeness made her nervous, and she got up to leave. That's the moment when I grabbed her leg," said the founder of Hope for Paws.
Grabbing a scared dog by her leg is a risky move, but the rescuers figured that if the dog ran away it would make their task even more difficult.
As soon as the rescuers got Petunia they saw that she was lactating and that meant she had a puppy nearby. They took Petunia to different places so she would show them were her puppies were hidden. To pump up her maternal instincts they played audio files of crying puppies.
The rescuers only found one puppy and everytime they played Petunia the audio she would lead them to her single puppy.
The rescuers took in both the mom and child.
