Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo and other government officials are expected to attend the rally against the burial of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani which will be held on August 15, Monday at the Lapu-Lapu Monument in Rizal Park, Manila.
“We didn’t give a formal invitation to Ma’am Leni. We sent feelers since this is an open invitation for those who are willing to attend and from what I’ve heard she has confirmed her attendance just today [Friday],” said Jozy Acosta, the executive committee chair of the Coalition Against Marcos Burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (CAMB-LNMB).
Acosta also urged the citizens who oppose the burial of the late President to wear a white shirt and join the joint rally from 8 a.m. to noon.
Aside from Robredo, Senators Grace Poe, Leila de Lima, Francis Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros are also expected to attend the rally. Representatives Teddy Baguilat, Edcel Lagman, Kaka Bag-ao, former party-list representative Walden Bello and former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Etta Rosales are also set to attend the event.
CAMB-LNMB’s Zena Bernardo said that the rally seeks to gather plenty of signatures to prevent the burial of Marcos’ remains at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. She also clarified that the rally is meant to be a peaceful activity and that it has no aims of rallying against President Rodrigo Duterte – a supporter of Marcos’ burial at the Heroes’ Cemetery.
But due to the rainy weather, the rally organizers advised the attendees to bring umbrellas, raincoats, food and garbage bags.
Various sectors have opposed the burial of Marcos at the Heroes’ Cemetery due to his alleged history of violating human rights, election cheating and massive corruption during his time as the President of the country. – Kami Media
