Many Filipinos have been taken away by the hit mobile game Pokemon GO since it launched in the country this month. Players of all ages will be seen looking on their phones as they catch different Pokémon characters. Even establishments and businesses are using the popularity of the game in their advertisements to draw more attention to the public.
To be able to play the game, users need to have mobile data so they can proceed with the application. However, this becomes a problem to some who can’t afford to have mobile data every day.
The statement made by PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan has brought joy to the gloomy days being experienced by the Philippines for the past few days as they announced that Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers will be able to avail of free data for the popular hit game.
In his Twitter post last August 13, the telecommunication network boss said, ‘You asked, we listened. We’ll bring back FREE Pokémon GO for all Smart and TNT subscribers from August 14 to September 15. No catch, no fine print!’
Meanwhile, free data offer was also announced by Globe Telecom 6 hours before Smart made its announcement on Twitter. In order to be able to use the free data, subscribers have to download the data usage tracking application “Globe Switch”. The promo of Globe is mobile data of one gigabyte that is valid for 30 days. Further, it will start 7 days later the Smart’s offer.
