HIGHLIGHT: The family of Mutya ng Davao 2002 Mary Carmel Osmena coordinated with authorities to aid in the search of the former beauty queen who was last seen on April 2. Police later on confirmed that she was just staying in a hotel.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Milgrace Cajes Driz, said in a phone interview Thursday night, that a security guard of a hotel called the father of Mutya ng Dabaw 2002 and told him that his daughter is staying at their hotel.
Celso Osmena said they last saw his 34-year old daughter leaving the house on the afternoon of April 2, but she left her mobile phone. The next day, he received a phone call where he only heard the caller uttering the word “Pa,” before the line was immediately cut. He believed it was the voice of her missing daughter.
Chief Inspector Driz said, "The description of the security guard on Mary Carmel was confirmed by Celso."
"They were very thankful to the media and everyone in the social media who shared and helped solve the problem but they now want to settle the issue on their own," Insp. Driz.
Mary Carmel’s sister has taken to Facebook to seek help in finding their missing family member while police investigated for almost two weeks.
“Yung investigators po natin, nagco-conduct na po ng deeper investigations regarding this matter. But nonetheless, we will help, we will extend everything na kailangan nila, just to ensure na safe yung pagbalik,” said Davao City Senior Inspector Migrace Driz.
(“Our investigators are currently conducting deeper investigation regarding this matter. But nonetheless, we will help, we will extend to the family everything that they might need, just to ensure her safe return.”)
Before Mary Carmel was found, Sr. Insp. Driz also said they looked into the several withdrawals made in Mary Carmel’s bank account amounting to P40,000. Celso said the numerous withdrawals raise suspicion as they were made two days after his daughter went missing.
Mary Carmel is married to a British national, but her husband is currently in London.
