Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa claimed on Wednesday that he and President Rodrigo Duterte are targets of an assassination plot headed by a big-time drug lord who is working with terror groups with allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
According to the PNP chief, the drug lord is an incumbent mayor from Mindanao who wants to put a stop to Duterte’s aggressive drug war.

"Mayroong intelligence report na nakakarating sa atin na allegedly, mayroong isang mayor na identified na drug lord na nag-o-offer ng pera sa mga personalities identified with armed groups dito sa Mindanao na nag-pledge allegiance sa ISIS para titirahan kami ni President Duterte," Dela Rosa revealed.
(We have received an intelligence report saying that there is a mayor identified as a drug lord who is allegedly offering money to personalities identified with armed groups in Mindanao that have pledged allegiance to ISIS, in order to assassinate me and President Duterte.)
The PNP chief declined to disclose who the alleged drug mayor is but he revealed which weapon they are planning to use to kill him and the President.
"Iyung mga IED (improvised explosive device) ang gagamitin daw,” Bato said.

Dela Rosa said that the PNP has asked the Army to help them capture the suspected drug lord mayor. However, Bato said that the location of the mayor poses a serious complication for a police and military offensive. For this reason, the PNP chief said that they have to take extreme caution in trying to capture the mayor.
The PNP chief added that he will not increase his personal security because he is not afraid of dying.
"Hindi ako takot mamatay anytime. Bahala na si Lord sa akin," he said.
