Hidilyn Diaz made Filipinos proud, including a number of celebrities, after she gave the country its first Olympic medal, a distinction that had been so elusive for the past 20 years! Famous celebrities were quick to post their congratulations on social media right after Hidilyn bagged the Olympic silver medal for the 53-kg women’s weightlifting competition.
Internationally renowned artist Lea Salonga, who has starred in Broadway and have made several appearances in the international scene, quickly sent a congratulatory message to Hidilyn.
In her Instagram post, Salonga described Hidilyn’s achievement as unbelievable. She exclaimed “There it is!” as the scores of the Olympians were showed on screen, with the Philippine flag visibly coming in second after Chinese Taipei’s .
Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach was also proud of her fellow Filipina. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is proud of her fellow Mindanaoan. In her post, she gave emphasis on how Diaz snagged the silver medal after 20-years of athletes coming home empty-handed, and also the fact that Diaz was the first Philippine woman to win an Olympic medal.
