NPA rebels claim killing Jones, Isabela Vice Mayor

HIGHLIGHT: MANILA – New People's Army (NPA) rebels confirmed being behind the killing of the vice mayor of Jones, Isabela on Wednesday morning, for supposedly violating agreement with the group for the campaign season.

In an Inquirer report, NPA Benito Tesorio Command said Lucas  did not follow the "terms of his NPA permit to campaign." The group of Lucas are also accused of vote-buying and carrying firearms while campaigning for the elections.

According to PO3 Manuel Medina, the vice mayor left with his contingent at 5:15AM to deliver relief goods and calamity assistance cash to Brgy. Sta. Isabel, Dicamay Uno, then pick up other members at Dicamay Dos

The group’s first stop was supposedly at Dicamay 2. While on their way to Sitio Dinangnang, ten armed men stopped them, introducing themselves as members of the “Camus Command”.

By this time, the armed men were asking for the Lucas group’s campaign permit.

To their surprise, they forcibly took their cellphones. The relief goods were also gotten from them, including the calamity assistance money amounting at least P674, 000.

At around 11AM, the convoy was asked to abandon the place, turn back, but not bearing Lucas, two bodyguards and other two volunteers. The NPA  later released the rest and killed Lucas.

Up to date, responsible authorities are investigating the case.
