Along Gil Puyat Avenue is an old, scrawny, hapless woman who sits at the sidewalk and one who hardly looks up. Why? She’s busy.
You might wonder, what could she busy herself with as she's got nothing? Well, she’s busy making those drawings on pieces of paper, which she sells for P15 a piece.
This old woman would use broken oil pastels, which she will be collecting from garbage bins. She would also be very resourceful with her other materials. Things that students and even professionals consider trash, she would pick them up (paper and cardboard) and use them to meticulously make her art drawings.
The picture of this old woman who dignified herself for earning a living despite her being in the lowest strata of society has touched lives, and also hearts, from all over the Philippines. Thanks to the efforts of Judy Ann Samorin, who posted the photo of the old woman and shared her insights on Facebook.
Many people have liked and shared her post. Some took the time to find out who this old woman is and have even gone out of their way to donate something that this poor lady can use.
Some thought of providing her with drawing materials. Others expressed their desire to give her free art lessons. Now that would certainly be a huge help for this old lady who earns a living one drawing at a time. – SD, Kami Media
