Marcos: Ninoy Got Treatment Abroad, Why Not Arroyo?

In his first time to campaign in Pampanga, VP bet Senator Bongbong Marcos, Jr. said that Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should be allowed to receive medical treatment abroad.

Former President Arroyo, despite being under hospital arrest for charges of corruption, is the current congresswoman of Pampanga, now on her second term.

Using Ninoy Aquino as a parallel example, Marcos pointed out that physical ailments should receive the best treatment, regardless of the cases filed against the individual.

According to Rappler, Marcos said: “Hindi namin maintindihan kung bakit hindi siya pinapayagang magpagamot. Kung may kaso siya, may kaso siya. Pero may sakit eh. The very least pagamutin natin. Kung maaalala 'nyo, kahit si Ninoy Aquino eh pinapunta sa States dahil may karamdaman sa puso.”

Ninoy Aquino, a political enemy of Marcos arrested during Martial law, was allowed to go to the US to receive treatment for his heart illness.

Gloria, on the other hand, is currently detained in the Veterans Memorial Medical Center due to plunder charges.

Since 2011, she has been requesting for an overseas medical treatment but to no avail. Yet despite her illness, she still managed to run and win a seat in Congress in 2013.
