“That is prohibited,” the concerned citizen said after spraying water on the cigarette.

“Who are you? What is that? What are you doing?” one jeepney driver asked in Tagalog.

The video uploader also showed the LTFRB’s Memorandum Circular No. 36, S. 2009 which states that: “Smoking, or the act of carrying a lighted cigarette or other tobacco product, is prohibited in all public utility vehicles and public transportation terminals.”

Some of the viewers of the video commented that the actions of the motorcycle rider are useless since there are many more jeepney and taxi drivers who continue to smoke their cigarettes while driving on the road.

However, many netizens also praised the efforts of the concerned citizen. They pointed out that the video could help raise awareness among the commuting public that there is a law that prohibits the smoking of cigarettes inside public utility vehicles and that they should not allow themselves to be victimized by second-hand smoke.

Health experts say that second-hand smoke can also cause numerous heath issues such as asthma, cough, heart disease, lung cancer and respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

So the next time you ride a public utility vehicle and you find the driver smoking a cigarette, make sure to take a video of him while he is smoking and tell him that you will show it to the LTFRB if he would not stop smoking.
