Relatives of student killed in drug war say he is innocent

- Relatives of Roman Clifford Manaois who was shot in Pangasinan said that he is not involved in any drug-related activities

- Cecil Manaois, Roman's mother, said in an interview that people from their community can testify that his son is innocent

- Roman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while boarding a tricycle on his way to the city market

Relatives of Roman Clifford Manaois who was shot dead on July 19 in Dagupan City, Pangasinan insisted that the 20-year-old student is not involved in any illegal drugs activities.

“Oman” is the second child of four children and was the breadwinner of the family. His mother is a housewife and his father is disabled so he worked with his uncle who took electrical jobs in Dagupan.

People of Barangay Carael has known Oman and has never suspected him of being involved in illegal drugs. Oman’s mother, Cecil Manaois told reporters that many people in their barangay were saddened by the death of her son and said that they know that he was a kind boy.

“Madami ang magpapatunay sa kabaitan ng anak ko at wala talagang masasabing masama tungkol sa kanya,” Cecil said.

(Many people can testify to my son’s kindness and nothing bad can be said about him.)

Cecil shared that Roman served as a sacristan in their local parish and that he spent his last hours taking care of his 71-year-old half-blind grandmother.

Melandrew Velasco, Roman’s relative, said in an interview that Oman is few months away from graduating and has been offered an overseas job in Dubai.

“Siya sana iyong mage-emancipate ng pamilya niya from hardships in life,” Velasco added.

(He was supposed to emancipate his family from hardships in life.)

Oman was shot by unidentified gunmen when he was on his way to the city market to eat kaleskes, a delicacy in Pangasinan. He was aboard a tricycle driven by his friend when a Zaldy Abalos asked to ride and to be dropped off at Lucao district.

Suspects wearing bonnets gunned down Zaldy while Julio was able to escape when the gunmen turned to him. The suspects then killed Oman who held up his hands but was still shot at the side part of his body, hitting his heart.
