Video of special ability cheerleading team took first place at a competition is so inspiring

An all-ability cheerleading team from Newcastle, New South Wales, has taken the Internet by storm over the past 24 hours, after placing first at a Sydney competition.

In it, wheelchair user Deb and three other cheerleaders – Cooper, Sarah and Mikky – can be seen performing a number of high-energy manoeuvres.

Since a video of the performance was shared on Saturday, it has had over two million views and been liked more than 30,000 times. Facebook users have praised the team for their “beautiful work” and electric performance, which earned them first place in the level one all ability category.

“Once again our Special Ability champions continue to inspire and awe us with awesome displays from Oxygen All Stars Lithium featuring the fantastic Deb,” the Facebook caption reads.

In an interview following a performance on Sunday, Deb was made aware of how many people she had inspired, and revealed she had always wanted to be a cheerleader.
