A 7-year-old dachshund was left alone and completely abandoned after his owner died. It was a difficult time for the dog. He was then dropped off at an animal shelter and was at risk of being put down because of his condition which shocked the shelter staff.
This is Vincent, the dachshund who weighed twice as normal for his breed. Because of his age, his obesity, and the trauma he experienced, he is having a difficult time with his health.
He was at risk of nerve damage and has very high cholesterol levels. He was a candidate for being put down but Mary Tipton of K-9 Angels Rescue posted a photo of Vincent on Facebook, saying that the dog needs a foster home.
Just like a miracle, a dachshund rescuer named Melissa came to the shelter to take Vincent. But before she was able to bring Vincent home, she said they experienced a different level of fat-shaming. She described that passers-by gave Vincent dirty looks and nasty comments.
That's when Melissa promised to herself that she will help the pooch and transform him into what he should be. She assumed that the previous owner of Vincent fed him unhealthy food that is why he grew up like that.
She began to give Vincent a special dog food, had him do exercise, and play with other dachshunds after a week of detox.
Melissa documented how Vincent lost weight. Now at 17.5 pounds and looking so happy and contented with Melissa, Vincent is now up to find his new furever home.
Just look at how Vincent transformed from an obese pooch to a very charming and fit dachshund! “A little more than a pound left to lose!” said Melissa.
This transformation happened in a span of 8 months and now Vincent's success story is going viral. From "Fat Vincent", now to a happy "Skinny Vinnie"!
