Netizens show different reactions on Duterte's drug war

EDITOR'S NOTE:

These images stormed the social media world and had netizens stirred – generating mixed reactions.

A moving sight of a woman embracing his dead husband was captured in a photo. “I’m a Pusher,” says the placard placed next to the husband’s slain body.

One Facebook user described the picture as “scripted and edited.”

One netizen recalled what President Rodrigo Duterte has remarked during his electoral campaign that "his presidency would be a bloody one."

On the other hand, another commenter compared the incident to the movie The Purge for the “blatant disregard of human life.” The Purge is an American action horror film where criminal activities are legal – including murder.

According to reports, there are 544 recorded deaths associated with drugs from May 10-July 22, 357 of which were gunned down during police operations, 141 were killed by unidentified gunmen and 46 were suspected summary execution victims.

A woman hugs her husband, who was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Manila on Saturday.

Besides his body was a placard which reads "I'm a pusher".

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte swept to power in May on a promise to clampdown on drugs, and police have since confirmed killing nearly 200 people in a two-month crime blitz.

There has also been a surge in killings by anti-drug vigilantes who leave victims' corpses on city streets wrapped in packaging tape with signs accusing them of being drug dealers.
