On July 4, a little puppy named Libre was taken by its neglectful owner to the Lancaster SPCA. His poor condition showed severe physical and emotional pain. Everyone thought he had no chance of survival.
The Speranza Animal Rescue volunteers found the little puppy feeling very weak, it could not stand on its own, and its skin was rotting away.
From head to toe, little Libre had open wounds. He was surrendered to the animal volunteers by a breeder, which means that more dogs under her watch might also be suffering the same way Libre did.
Despite not believing he would survive, the volunteers made sure to give him everything he needed. The first vet gave up on Libre, telling the volunteers that the puppy had no chance to survive.
For this reason, the volunteers took Libre to Dillsburg Veterinary Center in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. The vets found out that the dog needed antibiotics because maggots were living in his skin.
His eyes were also blinded by corneal ulcers. Despite the severe condition, the vets in this center promised to do everything they can to pull off a miracle.
Much to everyone’s surprise, a miracle indeed happened. Libre kept fighting on, seemingly knowing that there are people who actually cares about him now.
As he slowly recovered, little Libre welcomed the warmth and love he received from the staff and the volunteers. He seemed to have already forgotten the extreme abuse and neglect he suffered from his previous owner.
Aside from the help of the center and the volunteers, generous donors also gave aid for Libre’s recovery. The puppy was spoiled by everyone and was given great care by the staff.
After a few days, Libre finally rose to his feet. A little bit of light also entered into his eyes. Libre is now living the life every pet dog deserves.
