Regine Velasquez was very happy for her friend and fellow singer, Jaya who transferred to ABS-CBN last week.
During the launch of her cookbook, the press was curious to hear Velasquez’s reaction about Jaya’s move to GMA’s rival network. Regine was quick to assure that she feels nothing but happiness and that she supports her friend’s decision.
The Asia’s Songbird wasn’t late on the news as she recalled how Jaya even texted and informed her about it. In addition, she shared how the transfer could’ve been done earlier but her friend chose to stay and finish their show ‘Poor Senyorita’ first.
Regine just finished her show with GMA after signing her 2-year contract last January, instantly dismissing the rumors of her transferring to the other network.
The two vocal powerhouses appeared in several music-variety shows such as ‘SOP,’ ‘Party Pilipinas,’ and ‘Sunday All Stars’ in GMA before parting ways.
Maria Luisa Ramsey, popularly known as Jaya, is known for her hit songs ‘Wala Na Bang Pag-Ibig,’ ‘Dahil Tanging Ikaw,’ and many more. She has released more than 11 albums during her 25-year career.
The “Queen of Soul” was officially welcomed at ABS-CBN last Saturday, July 16 through a performance at the noontime variety show, ‘It’s Showtime,’ where she was included as one of the judges for the segment ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan.’
Jaya performed her ballad songs and shared a duet with Erik Santos and Yeng Constantino who are also judges of the same segment she has recently joined.
The singer received a warm welcome from the show’s hosts and when asked about how she felt, Jaya addressed the excited crowd – sharing how she was trying to keep up with the quick series of events. She also added that she looked forward on starting – what she calls – her new life. The music icon did not forget to express her gratitude to the show for receiving her with open arms.
The soul singer stayed with her past network for 16 years before her transfer.
Jaya is a Filipina soul music singer who was a contract artist under GMA Artist Center until she transferred to the rival network. She is the first Filipino to chart in the United States when her single peaked at 44 at the Billboard Hot 100 chart. -Kami Media
