An elderly man was praised by netizens as the ‘bravest Filipino’ on social media after a photo posted on Facebook by Tending Pinoy Videos showed him protesting alone in front of the Chinese Embassy. The man objected Chinese atrocities and Chinese aggression against the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.

The elder, who has yet to be identified by the media, was seen standing in front of the Chinese Embassy with a placard and a Filipino flag at his back.

On the placard were written in bold red letters: ‘CONDEMN CHINESE ATROCITIES! STOP BULLYING THE FILIPINOS! STOP OCCUPYING AND GET-OUT OF OUR PHIIPPINE SOVEREIGN TERRITORY!!!’

The photo garnered many likes and comments. Many netizens praised the old man of being a hero. Others called to action the rallyists, the left wing groups, and patriotic Filipinos to come forward and demonstrate against Chinese aggression instead of focusing on the Philippine government.

The leftists usually protest against US military presence within the Philippines.

Last Tuesday, July 12, the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled in favor of the Philippines that China had no legal basis to claim islands part of the West Philippine Sea. China has rejected the verdict and is adamant on their claims to the ‘9-dash line,’ which encompasses land features within the West Philippine Sea.

Chinese aggression in the South China Sea includes the building of artificial islands, which are capable of supporting armed military activities and facilities.

The man’s name is still unknown, but his efforts to protest against the aggression of China has been lauded and welcomed by many Filipinos.
