The rainy days have come. and aside from heavier traffic, floodwaters are also on its way. After a heavy rainfall, people are now expecting a spurge of floods in the metro and other parts of the country.
This problem did not escape President Rodrigo Duterte’s eyes, and he is pointing at the Mayors of the respective cities who, according to him, have not done their job in cleaning up their cities.
“The Philippines is so dirty, the mayors are not doing anything,” President Duterte said in a talk in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) office in Davao City.
Being a Mayor of Davao City for two decades, President Duterte revealed that intelligence and discretionary funds allocated for local executives are the easiest to pocket. Thus, he is eyeing on creating a special task force or team to look into where and how the local officials used their funds.
He noted that Governors and Mayors have intelligence and discretionary funds allocated at their disposal. And because they can just use it for any project they deem necessary, President Duterte said this is the easiest to pocket. He said that these funds can be used by Mayors to clean up the streets.
“There is trash and garbage around and yet we have to wait for the plastic to enter the drainage so every time there’s a downpour, excessive rain, water, there is clogging,” he said.

He said he is creating a special team to review and investigate on where these funds have gone. He stressed that government officials are not doing their job yet they are still paid. He said that their job includes getting rid of trash in their respective localities.
The officials who are not doing their jobs are the ones who have fancy things and cars, Duterte revealed, and asked them to have a little more shame.
