- Jennie Gabriel appeared on ‘Umagang Kay Ganda’ to showcase her vocal impression of her idol actress Angel Locsin
- The sis-spectacular songstress is also the reigning champion of the singing competition ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’
- Gabriel also demonstrated her spot-on impersonation during a segment on ‘It’s Showtime’ which has been viewed by over 1 million times at ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube account as of writing
Umagang Kay Ganda (UKG) hosts Amy Perez and Ariel Ureta challenged Jennie Gabriel, a singer who has been making rounds on the internet for impersonating Filipina actress Angel Locsin.
The hosts showed her three clips of Angel speaking in different occasions. First, from the teleserye The Legal Wife. Second, a snippet of Angel’s interview with Boy Abunda in Tonight with Boy Abunda. Third, when Angel was giving her comments as a judge in Pilipinas Got Talent.
Gabriel flawlessly delivered the lines much to the delight and amusement of the two hosts.
Perez mentioned that not only can Gabriel deliver the famous actress’ lines but she also resembles the actress in some angles. To which Gabriel responded with, “Maliit na bagay. (It’s a small thing).” using Angel’s voice.
Curious as to how she developed her voice for such an impeccable impersonation, Gabriel said that she started when she was around 10 years old. She would often do her voice impressions in front of her classmates.
Prior to joining ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’, Gabriel has already been exposed to performing as a reliever in Punchline and Laffline, popular comedy bars in Quezon City. During her stints she continues to copy Angel Locsin as well as local singers such as Lani Misalucha, Jaya, and Jessa Zaragoza.
Gabriel’s last performance at the rebooted ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ got her a standing ovation and she beat daily winner Cookie Gamboa by five points. She is now tied both with Marielle Montellano and Rachel Gabreza for the most number of wins on the show.
