University of the Philippines bags its third crown in the UAAP Street Dance Competition held at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, April 9. UP bested six other schools for the title.
Represented by the UP Street Dance Club, the movers from Diliman who were dressed like choir members (they look like the Treblemakers from Pitch Perfect), grooved to a smooth transition of songs from the present and the 90s.
Last year, UP Street blended an array of 90s and current dance mixes with its 'luksong tinik' theme. They bested La Salle’s Dance Company Street and UST Hype who placed second and third respectively.
This is the dance competition’s fifth staging with La Salle winning its first two iterations in 2011 and 2012. UP ruled in 2013 and 2015. There was no street dance competition in2014.
Last year’s runner-up,Company of Ateneo Dancers, finished fourth, while Far Eastern University and its bling-and-hiphop routine took the fifth spot. Meanwhile, University of the East Armada was sixth and Adamson’s CAST finished at seventh. National University’s Underdawgz did not join this year.
UP took home a P120,000 winner’s check, while La Salle and UST earned P90,000 and P70,000 respectively.
