-Maria Kris Robles sang an operatic song, Via Dolorosa, as her audition piece on The Voice Kids
-Lea Salonga praised Robles on her angelic voice
-Robles ended up joining Lea Salonga’s team making her the 19 contestant to do so
Who doesn’t know Lea Salonga? At the age of 18, she landed the role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon which paved the way for her to be the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award. In addition, she was also the singing of not one but two Disney Princesses, Mulan from Mulan and Jasmine from Aladdin. After all her achievements, one might ask where will you meet someone who will impress this world star? You don’t have to look far because the answer is just in the city of Malabon.
Maria Kris Robles from Malabon City successfully surprised Salonga and the other 2 coaches of The Voice Kids the moment she opened her mouth. At a young age, pop songs and maybe classic songs, influenced by her parents, are expected from the young girl but the coaches were surprised to hear an operatic song instead.
Robles sang “Via Dolorosa”. The song is inspired of the path Jesus Christ took on his way to his crucifixion.
Salonga commented on the heaviness of Maria’s song choice. She mentioned how this might be the first time in the history of the show to see a contestant take on this song as their audition piece. Lea admired how light her voice is and just over all angelic.
After the series of praises, it’s no surprise that Robles ended up joining Salonga’s team. She is now the 19 contestant to do so. Laguna hailed, Angel Piñaflor followed her blind audition on Saturday.
Even after not getting Robles on his team, Bamboo Mañalac scored Kyle Philippe Mallari of Quezon City and Maxine Manzano of Caloocan. Sharon Cuneta, the newest coach, didn’t fall short as she recruited Gabrielle Soldevilla and Jhie Anne Guinoo on her team.
