Trisha Joy Ownsworth's three-year-old toddler would likely have died had it not been for the intervention of other people. But a District Court Judge has accepted the 38-year-old's conduct was 'an aberration' and that she was 'a loving, caring mother'.
A woman said she just forgot about the boy being in the car when she went shopping. Judge McIntyre said Ownsworth had suffered considerable community backlash following her conviction, especially on social media, and had lost her job as a security guard.
For the offence of aggravated creating risk of serious harm, she jailed the mother of four for one year but suspended the term, placing her on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
