- Vice President Leni Robredo was appointed as secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) on July 7.
- Robredo said that it reminded her of her late husband Jesse Robredo whose life was claimed in a plane crash
- Jesse Robredo also advocated for the poor when he was still alive
Vice President Leni Robredo said that her appointment to the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) reminded her of her late husband, former Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Jesse Robredo.
On July 7, Leni Robredo was phoned by President Duterte in the middle of a press conference to offer her the HUDCC post.
Jesse, who died in a plane crash in 2012, also advocated for the poor when he was still alive. The vice president said that it’s like “full cirle” for him and her husband.
Leni recalled that Jesse’s number one advocacy was housing, while she was fighting for the urban poor communities.
The vice president also shared that she feels the presence of Jesse Robredo.
"Parang when people ask me, 'Nagpaparamdam ba sa iyo si Jesse?' Sabi ko, 'Hay naku, pag nagsabi akong oo, it's an understatement,” she shared.
(It’s like when people ask me, ‘Do you still feel Jesse’s presence?’ I answer ‘When I say yes, it’s an understatement’. )
In earlier reports, Leni Robredo’s appointment to the housing agency was lauded by several people. Fr. Edu Gariguez of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said that it was a “good choice” given Robedo’s background as an advocate of the poor.
The HUDCC is the highest government agency that is responsible for housing in the country. It’s the same agency that was headed by former vice presidents Jejomar Binay.and Kabayan Noli De Castro.
The vice president is set to attend the Cabinet meeting on Monday, July 11 with President Duterte. -CD Kami Media
