- President Rodrigo Duterte is known for his down-to-earth attitude
- The president earlier expressed his desire to keep on going home in Davao City even after assuming the post
- He traveled like a usual passenger
President Rodrigo Duterte went home late Thursday to Davao City and undertook normal processes in the airport such as passing through the metal scanners and x-ray equipment at Manila Airport.
A video, which was posted by the Presidential Communications department on Facebook, showed the president raising up his hands to be checked before entering the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.
Duterte wore a brown shirt with its top buttons open and sleeves rolled up. He looked and acted like a normal Filipino passenger.
In the video, many people greeted him, shook hands with him, and even took photos with their phones as he walked to the boarding gate. His security men followed him.
He, just like an ordinary passenger, sat on the window side of the plane, traveling via Philippine Airlines flight PR1825 which left past 10:00 p.m..
Duterte went home to attend the Hari Raya Festival in Davao today.
Vice President Maria Leonora “Leni” Robredo also attested to the humility of the chief executive.
“Malayo siya doon sa dati kong nakikita sa TV at sa preconceived idea ko of him,” said Robredo. “Yung sound and fury, nagmumura, madaling magalit, pinagagalitan kung sinong nakaka-get his ire. Ibang-iba.”
(He is far different from how I see him on TV and on my preconceived idea of him: sound and fury, curses a lot, easily-angered, impatient against whoever gets his ire. He is very different.)
“He was very respectful, malumanay magsalita. Nahihiya pa nga ako kasi mina-'ma'am' niya ako,” she added.
