- President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Vice President Leni Robredo to take the helm at HUDCC
- VP Robredo issued an official statement accepting the offer of the president on Thursday, July 7
- Duterte previously was non-committal on giving Robredo a Cabinet post
Vice president Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo has finally received a Cabinet post from President Rodrigo "Digong" Duterte.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed on July 7 that VP Robredo was assigned to be the chief of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre verified in a press briefing that Robredo has accepted the offer.
“The Vice President has accepted the offer and she was asked to report for the first Cabinet meeting on Monday,” he said.
Robredo also issued a statement confirming her acceptance.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo kay Presidente Rodrigo Duterte na itinalaga tayo bilang tagapangulo ng Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council,” Robredo stated.
(I thank President Rodrigo Duterte for assigning me to head the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.)

“Mas paglilingkuran natin ang ating mga kababayang walang tahanan at maipagpatuloy natin ang ating pangakong itulak ang kaunlaran at kaginhawaan para sa ating mga kapus palad na kababayan," the vice president furthered.
(I will serve our countrymen who are homeless and I can now continue my promise to seek for progress and improvement for the lives of our underprivileged countrymen.)
Robredo also shared that helping the underprivileged Filipinos through housing was also the dream of her late husband and former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
“Ang pagtugon sa mga pangangailangan sa pabahay ay matagal nang adhikain ni Jesse. Maisasakatuparan ito at mabibiyayaan ang mga nasa laylayan sa pakikipagtulungan ng lahat," Robredo remarked.
(Addressing the need for housing support to those in need has long been an advocacy of Jesse. With the position, this could be fulfilled and the marginalized will benefit with everyone's cooperation.)
In a televised press conference on Thursday, Aguirre revealed that the president has asked earlier Secretary Christopher "Bong" Go, Duterte's special assistant, to notify Robredo of appointment to head the HUDCC.
Robredo was invited to join the Cabinet meeting on July 11 as per Aguirre.
Meanwhile, Georgina Hernandez, Robredo's spokesperson retweeted a report on Twitter saying that the vice president has been assigned as the new HUDCC chief.
